Birmingham Jewellery Quarter offices to benefit from new BID

The Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham is to undergo development plans for improvement with the proposal of a Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (BID). Headed up by ‘The Jewellery Quarter Development Trust’ and in partnership with Birmingham City Council, the Jewellery Quarter BID will apply to all businesses in premises with a rateable value of £10,000 and above. This will attract a 2% levy, which should raise in the region of £400,000.

Carousel Marketing, whose sister company Carousel Property owns 3 Sovereign Court offices, has already pledged their support to the Jewellery Quarter BID initiative. The business rates of 3 Sovereign Court will not attract the levy.

With several successful BIDs in existence in Birmingham such as Southside, Colmore Row, Broad Street and Retail Birmingham, the Jewellery Quarter is set to be the largest BID area to date.

Defined as the area bounded by Great Charles Street, Livery Street, Great Hampton Street, Key Hill Drive, Icknield Street, Sandpits/The Parade and Summer Row the objectives of the Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District are to:

  • Maintain and provide an attractive, clean and safe environment
  • Improve the economic wellbeing of the area
  • Provide better amenities, facilities and cultural activities and visitor attractions
  • Encourage initiatives that provide high quality, sustainable and affordable housing
  • Promote and enhance the unique industrial heritage
  • Working with the Jewellery Quarter landowners and developers to take advantage of grants and other funding initiatives available for building improvements
  • To secure funding to promote a centre of excellence for exhibitions and sales
  • Introducing a series of networking events for local Jewellery Quarter businesses
  • To ensure that the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter is a priority for the introduction of the proposed fast internet bandwidth

The ballot will take place over a 5 week period commencing 17th April 2012 and will be handled by an independent organisation. We will update you further after this time.
